Morning Report 10/30

It was another interesting case discussion at morning report today, this time lead by Dr. Feng. We discussed a case of tickborne illness contracted right here in Iowa.See the source image

As the map above shows, Iowa sits right between hotbeds of anaplasmosis/lyme to the north, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever/Ehrlichiosis to the south.

Luckily the CDC has fantastic resources for the diagnosis and management of tickborne disease which can be found at the following link.

Also discussed today, while many tickborne illnesses are treatable with doxycycline, it is important to remember that you treat the two Bs of BaBesios with two As (Atovaquone and Azithromycin).
